About the Online Designer Awards

The Fashiontv Online Designer Awards is an exciting new concept with a focus on providing emerging designers in Australia and New Zealand with a significant stepping stone to Local and International recognition. This competition will be conducted entirely on this website however the prizes and accolades are very real!

There are 3 categories that you can enter:

To enter this competition, you must submit a minimum of 3 garment designs accompanied by 3 photos of each garment for any one category (Main Category Entry). You may enter additional garments with 3 photos per garment once you have entered your Main Category Entry. Judging will be based on the best 3 garments entered. You can increase your chances of winning by submitting additional garments.

All entries submitted will be showcased to the public to view and rate.

All qualifying entrant pictures will be uploaded to the www.designerawards.com.au website, and will undergo 2 rounds of judging for each category. Entries for the Competition will close at midnight, 4 July 2010. Preliminary judging will begin July 5 by a panel of fashion and media industry professionals. From the preliminary round of judging, 21 finalists will be chosen – 7 per category. Ratings from the website will also be taken into consideration by the panel.

The 21 finalists will be notified by email and phone on July 6. Once notified, the 21 finalists must physically send their garments to Fashiontv for final judging by July 9. Directions will be sent to the finalists using the information supplied in their application.

The judging of the Final will be conducted by a separate panel of high profile figures in the Australian media and fashion industry. A category winner will be chosen from the finalists in each of the 3 categories. There will then be an overall winner declared from the 3 category winners.

The competition will be conducted entirely online with judging of the final to be filmed and aired on the Fashiontv channel and streamed on www.designerawards.com.au, www.ftv123.com, social networking sites and affiliate websites.

FAQ’s

Do I have to enter 3 garments per category?

Yes, it is compulsory that each entrant submit at least 3 garment designs per category. Judges will choose from the best 3 garments submitted.

Can more than one person apply?

Each entry can only be registered in the name of one person. Once you have made your submission you may add the name of one further designer that makes up your team in your profile questionnaire.

How many finalists are there per category?

There will be 7 finalists per category, totalling 21 finalists chosen from across the 3 categories.

If I enter all 3 categories, can I potentially win all 3?

Yes.

How many images of each garment can I submit?

You must upload 3 photos of each garment you are entering into the competition. Please see the next FAQ for more information on what is required regarding the phots you submit.

Should the images of my garments be taken on a model, laying flat, or on a coat hanger?

We highly recommend you have the photos taken on a live model, or a mannequin if a live model is not possible. They should also be taken on a plain background so that your designs are highlighted and not lost in a complicated background scene. For the best chances of selection by the Judges, it's a good idea to submit a front, side and back photo to make up the 3 images per garment.

How do the public rate my designs?

Everyone must register in order to rate or comment on the contender's designs. The public can view and rate each entry from 1 (bad) to 5 (good). The public ratings are then factored into the selection process with the Judges reviews to determine the 21 finalists.
